Kevin Bjella, APS Secretary, writes:
We have enjoyed over three years of
great leadership from current APS
president John Behrendt, but all good
things must come to an end. The plan is to hold
an election this coming early fall with the mailing
of bios and ballots in the July issue of The
Polar Times. This now presents the opportunity
for anyone in the membership to throw their
name into the hat and, of course, this applies to
anyone currently serving as an officer or on the
Board of Governors.
With the APS feeling the reality of the tough
economic times, the new president will need to
work creatively with officers and members to
lead the APS into a new era that will allow us to
continue to provide the publication we all enjoy
and possibly become involved in other endeavors
as well.
I encourage anyone who is interested and
has questions regarding the position to contact
either John or myself via email, and we will get
you the information you need. That said, I would
like to have in hand, by the first week of May, the
names of all who wish to be listed on the ballot.
Please provide bios and include a statement of
why you are the best choice for the President
position. The ballot will go out with the July edition
of The Polar Times.
Feel free to contact us regarding this election.
I look forward to talking to the possible next
president of the APS. (Sorry, no Oval Office or
Secret Service provided!) |
